Glenl Wear

INNOVATION

"Glenl Wear is extremely busy with his regular job of managing BYU grounds, consisting of 727 acres, which includes 212 acres of parking lots, 72 miles of sidewalks, 7 miles of roads, nearly 300,000 annual plantings, and over 100,000 trees and shrubs. He manages numerous full-time employees and over 400 part-time students, yet he still finds time to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. A good recent example is the National Collegiate Landscape Competition that BYU hosted. Glenl was instrumental in finding locations for different events that benefitted 650 students from universities across the US and Canada, along with industry representatives from more than 90 companies, to have a memorable, meaningful experience. The national competition was a huge success thanks to Glenl. Typical Glenl style, he stayed late all four evenings of the competition and was seen hauling trash to a dumpster and cleaning up after an event that ended at 9:00 pm. This is not a singular Glenl example, over the years he has helped several graduate students with research projects. Their projects would not have been possible without him. Glenl exemplifies BYU's motto of "Enter to learn, go forth to serve.""
