Capital Needs & Utilities Analysis (CNA)

Capital Needs & Utilities Analysis inspects, analyzes, manages, and maintains databases of campus utility usage and billings, including those of affiliated entities. We also ensure that the principles and integrity of the CNA (Capital Needs Analysis) system are accurate and up to date.

Capital Needs & Utilities Analysis utilizes the CNA process to provide the stakeholders of the Church Education System (CES) a framework and process for asset management and leadership to ensure the long-term investments in assets are appropriate, needed, and aligned with the vision for higher education in CES.

CNA Process Schedule

August 22, 2019 03:39 PM
CNA provides the policies, documentation, and schedule by which all of BYU and its institutions complete capital needs processes, and serves as a resource to these institutions as each process is performed. This process allows the university to predict and project real needs for each department based upon tangible assets. With CNA, needs are gathered, assessed, and requested with provisions in place for emergencies and contingencies. Projections can now be made well into the future with a foundation in real items. This asset management system is the gold standard and is often sought after by other universities and government organizations as a template of how to run their own asset management systems.

There are specific processes that only the CNA Center at BYU-Provo can perform for all institutions. These processes are completed according to the policies and procedures as outlined in the CNA Center documentation. The CNA Process Schedule contains a timeline for different steps in the CNA approval process.
